Description This paper summarizes the second cycle of SDC's community of practice on Value Chains in Rural Development discussion. It focuses on how to identify intervention and leverage points. The discussion covered the following topics:
The starting point for interventions: The invervention process considers five important steps and four basic rules. It may take only a brief business talk or up to several months of research, networking and facilitation before deciding on where to focus interventions.
The "Just-do-it" approach: A learning by doing approach that raised an intensive discussion about the necessity of analyses and planning procedures.
Different interventions for different actors: The diverse perspectives and motivation of various actors in VC development is an ongoing discussion on the platform.
Obstacles to VC competitiveness: Several areas for VC failures are discussed.
Trust, competitors and losers: Critical success factors are the handling of trus, competitors and possible losers of VC interventions.
